9.10pm: Virtually every Brisbane CBD business or home will be powerless tomorrow morning in a power shutdown of a magnitude not seen since the 1974 floods. The city’s massive power grid will be shut down from 7am, sending 100,000 homes and businesses into darkness.
8.43pm: A bleak picture from Premier Anna Bligh. She says: “The only positive news is that we do expect to see the rainfall clear tomorrow …” But even that’s not definite, she warns.
8.40pm: Over the past 24 hours, 1500 people have been evacuated. Evacuations will continue overnight.
8.35: The official death toll now stands at 10, with the death of a four-year-old boy who fell out of a boat at Marburg near Ipswich. The number of people unaccounted for has again risen to 78.
